Automotive testing with thin diameter thermocouple wire

Typically, temperature measurements are taken at multiple locations for automotive testing. However, when connecting thick wires to thermocouples, the design and accuracy of the thermometer suffers. One solution is to use an ultra-fine thermocouple wire that provides the same economy, accuracy, and reliability as standard wire. Originally developed for a well-known German car manufacturer, Omega Engineering offers the right solution to meet these requirements.
For example, consider a small object only a few millimeters in size that needs to be measured at a temperature of 200 °C. When using a contact sensor at ambient temperature, a large amount of heat from the object will be transferred to the temperature sensor. As a result, the temperature of the object will drop, resulting in inaccurate results.
In other cases, holes must be drilled in the structure for the installation of temperature sensors. If a temperature profile is to be established, dozens or even hundreds of sensors may be required.
An illustrative example is thermocouple measurements in and around plastic bumpers. Here, the integrity of the structure is quickly affected by wires of larger diameter.
Omega Engineering specifically designed the 5SRTC-TT-T and 5SRTC-TT-K thin gauge thermocouple wires to overcome these problems. The price is quite economical for applications using hundreds of thermocouples.
This thin and extremely accurate shielded K-type thermocouple wire is only 2.4mm in diameter for consistent and reliable temperature measurement. Reduces impact on small targets or targets requiring drilling.
